My own personal NaNoWriMo

Posted by Buddy on 25 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: Writing

Or would it be “MyNoWriMo”? Either way, I’m writing a novel next month, starting July 1st. I bought this “Novel Writing Kit” from the creator of NaNoWriMo, and I’ll be using it to create a 50,000-word novel in one month. Then I’ll be sending it away to be reviewed by publishers or some such.

I was going to write Ship finally, but some other idea has come up and I might do that. Either way, I suppose.

The book says I’m supposed to be free from doing dishes during the month, but I doubt anyone at work will give a poop. So I’ll be doing dishes anyway.

I’ve got pics to put up, but I forgot them today. So later, they’ll be here, for seeing.

Stuff!

I just got a new computer. No internet yet, though, so don’t get all excited that you’ll hear from me more often. But it does have Vista, which is actually quite nice. If you’re a gamer, I wouldn’t recommend it right away, though, since the drivers aren’t quite perfect yet, but if you’re just surfing the net and word processing and other such things, it’s amazing. However, one of the first things I did was disable the User Agent Control, which is that “Cancel or Allow” thing in the Mac commercials. I hate those commercials, by the way. Anyway, other than that, things are great on Vista.

Um, and I’m finally writing again, which is quite nice. And POV‘ing. And playing games. Stuttery sound won’t stop me. Although I’m finally able to play Liquid’s next-to-last game (their last one was Desperate Housewives which I don’t intend to get–ever), Dragonshard. Fun so far. And I just bought the expansion to Galactic Civilizations 2, but it’s a pain in the ass trying to figure out how to get it to my home computer without internet. The default downloader just installs it for you, rather than saving the update files to transport to the home computer. Kind of annoying, but whatever; I ordered the CD version, so if I can’t get the download to work, the CD will arrive someday and I’ll just use that.

So, long boring post that really says nothing. But I am alive, which I guess some people might care about.

Woo-Hoo

I just got back from the post office, where I mailed my first manuscript off to a magazine. Not likely to be accepted, but it’s my first one, so I’m not too expectant. If it does get accepted, though, I’ll be sure to name the magazine, so everyone can subscribe to it and read my first published work.

Hooray me!

Finally!

I’ve finally put up a new chapter. This one is part 3 of the Gathered Flowers storyline. Unfortunately, the only people that are likely to read it are those who’ve already read it while previewing the rough draft for me. However, while two of you just made suggestions… My mother printed them off and went through them (all three) with a red pen. I can always count on her for honest criticism. And abuse. So, thanks to her suggestions, minor changes have been made to the previous two chapters as well. It’s nothing huge, so you could survive not reading them if you already have, but they’re slightly changed. Just so you know.

Now then, go read it! The Mentalist (title subject to change). I’m disabling comments on this post, because the story has a comments link at the bottom. So use it.

Writer’s Block

Now I know why some writers go old-school and work on typewriters or word processors: You can’t check your email or browse WikiPedia with a typewriter. Or watch Futurama. Or spend countless hours watching POV-Ray rendering one pixel at a time. Or chat/im. Or anything else distracting.

On a related note, no new chapters are up. On any story. At all. In fact, I went backwards and took some down. Now that’s counterproductive! (Not really, I’m retconning–but still!)
